The Emerging Technology function looks both within the Financial Services industry and across many others to identify and track technology trends, assess impacts and make recommendations on crafting strategic advantage for the business. In this role, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for helping set the tone and drive this important mission. You will have an opportunity to synthesize emerging trends, pressure test new technologies and find ways to use them as part of Capital Group’s technology strategy. Responsibilities:

Conduct Emerging Technology Research & Incubation work in partnership with internal and external groups:

  • Deliver data driven research in various emerging technology domains (e.g. AI, FinTech, Digital & Ambient Computing, Collaboration Tech)
  • Use key insights and data to develop emerging technology venture ideas. Develop and curate a pipeline of ideas coming into the emerging technology group
  • Use innovation discovery and production techniques (i.e. human centered design, system thinking and lean enterprise), pipeline management tools, and proof of concept evaluation criteria
  • Combine knowledge of industry dynamics, policy changes, demographic, social, and other trends that may impact our ability to build and sustain an innovation portfolio over time

Lead technology advocacy and activism through technology evangelism and engagement efforts

  • Communicate complicated and new technical concepts effectively to a broad group of partners
  • Contribute to concept, creation and execution special events and innovation exercises to inspire and promote tech savviness throughout the company.
  • Assist with running lab and demo-based briefings with senior leaders across the organization
  • Coach and mentor more junior technology associates

Accelerate business value by identifying emerging tech opportunities and harnessing them appropriately to either build a strategy, examine viability through fail fast POC/prototyping or run pilots to drive adoption

  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, use open innovation methods to serve known or anticipated business needs
  • Provide leadership in shaping strategic technology selection and direction, focusing on both the IT Group (technology stack, compute, collaboration, middleware) and Line-Of-Business-specific (e.g. Investment Management, Institutional Recordkeeping, Wealth Management)
  • Produce architecture and implementation guides as needed to advance adoption of key emerging technologies
  • Facilitate proof-of-concept prototypes and initial implementation models

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience
  • A background in consulting, an MBA is preferred but not essential
  • Enterprise/solution architecture experience
  • Demonstrated passion in the emerging technologies space with the ability to qualify big bold technology ideas and their impact on our business
  • Particular experience with FinTech, blockchain, machine learning/AI solutions and/or digitally disruptive platforms and innovations preferred
  • An inquisitive intellect and willing to get hands on with deep research and POC efforts in variety of spaces. Previous coding/software development helpful
  • Demonstrated networking skills, polished engagement style and an affinity to hustle to get things done
  • DESIRED: Deep understanding of financial services, experience in asset management industry preferred
